“Have fun with your future endeavors, lover boy.” Xingqiu taunts with a sly grin on his face.

Aether clutches both books to his chest protectively, “The notebook is for my friend, this one is for me.”

Xingqiu sighs, resting a hand on his cheek, “That’s what they all say, you’re giving into your false reassurance.”

or; Aether wants to buy Xiao a birthday present and an unexpected mix-up happens.

“You’re early,” Xiao finally says, grasping at conversation. Deep breath. Relax.

“I wanted to be.” Venti shakes his head, amused, and his braids bob around him in a lovely blue cloud. His hair looks messier today, braids looser. “I heard today’s a special occasion.”

“I’m done recovering,” Xiao says cautiously. He can’t quite keep the hope from his voice.

“Not that,” Venti says, although his smile grows brighter, and hope spreads hot and heavy through Xiao’s heart. “I heard it’s your birthday.”

    -

After Xiao recovers, Venti pays him a visit.

    Summary

Xiao slams into the thing, tackles it to the ground. The vampire goes without resistance, back flat against the cobblestones, Xiao on top of it.

Too easy, warns that voice at the back of his head. That was too easy. Xiao pins the thing’s hands above his head, leans more of his weight on it. Holds his knife to the vampire’s throat.

    “Last words?” he says.

The vampire’s eyes open, a bright unnatural green, and it smiles. “Well, aren’t you forward?”

    -

In which Xiao is a novice uninitiated vampire hunter and Venti is a vampire king.
