    “Why are you such an idiot, Saint?” he whispered, his voice breaking, carried off by the wind. “Masochistic and stupid.” He inhaled, chest burning.
    “You’ve vanished from my life, but you still carry me with you… so why don’t you come back? Why did you stop believing that my happiness is at your side?”
    He broke off, clenching his fists, the knot in his throat turning into a stifled sob.
    “I hate you so much…” he said, but the words cracked, becoming almost a lament.
    He stayed there, in the dark, while Saint blew out the candle and the flame died, as if extinguishing the world’s last hope. Shin raised a hand to his face, wiping away the tears that wouldn’t stop falling.
    “Happy birthday, idiot.”
