Summary
A young man from the desert world of Motavia named Dana, recently settled on the ice planet Dezolis of the Algol system, is torn between his ambiguous feelings towards the familiar culture of his own people, and the unfamiliar religious culture of the Dezolisians. A casual experiment hurls him unexpectedly into the forefront of a social conflict that turns out to be inseparable from the religion and ecology of Dezolis.
