"Look," Hayden suddenly spoke. For whatever reason, he felt the pulling urge to help Marlow. He chalked it up to being a gossip, or something. It wasn't because he was scared his best friend was fucking the rival captain, and it definitely wasn't because he wanted to talk to Marlow more. "Give me your number, and we'll try and figure this whole thing out. I'll talk to the guys, and you talk to Rozanov. We'll tell each other what we notice. It can be this whole sleuth thing, just between us." Hayden realized that his proposition was oddly intimate. He blushed and choked out an awkward "if you want" to try and salvage some dignity, but it was redundant.
Marlow looked at him amusedly before handing him his phone. There was a look in his eyes that Hayden couldn't quite read.

Following a Montreal–Boston game, Ilya Rozanov remembers Shane Hollander, and forgets him. He does not remember being loved.
So perhaps, it is time that Shane reminds himself, after a decade, to chase his future at a break-neck pace, because Shane is tired of feeling guilty, tired of hiding from the person he never truly wants to hide from. It won't be so easy, of course, and maybe the path will take them two steps forward and one step back, but they will walk arm in arm, hand in hand.

Something flickers across Rozanov’s face. His jaw twitches. “Yes, I know about Lily.” He raises his eyebrows.
Hayden feels like a complete asshole, all of a sudden. There’s just been too much going on to even think about Shane’s mystery girlfriend. “Shit, I should probably, like, call her, or something? I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”
