Because if there was one thing she had learned from all her romcom research, it was this: when natural progression fails, you introduce a controlled environment. Preferably one with forced proximity, romantic implications, and one they could not logically refuse.

Under the ‘Participants’ tab, she typed in their names without hesitation. Then, under ‘Relationship Status’, she paused for exactly half a second, then confidently selected: Couple (Experimental Simulation Approved).

Or; March 7th was so done with her best friends' dancing around on each other like idiots so she have to take matters into her own hands. Even if it took them a full-blown interstellar research, eleven intervention attempts for cringe romantic tropes, and a catastrophic amount of spreadsheets for them to admit it, then so be it.

She nodded, swallowing everything she wanted to say. “Okay.”
If kisses were the line, she wouldn’t cross it. She would keep that part of herself untouched and unoffered. If love was too much for him, she would fold it inward and make it quiet for his comfort. She would give him everything else he was willing to take.

“Please, act normal.” Dan Heng found himself sighing as he sat up. Still, he reached out to her, caressing her cheek gently when she leaned in to his touch. “...What are your plans today?”
“Hah! I knew you’d forget, too!” Stelle smirked, and with a swift motion, she pounced on him, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Instinctively, he held onto her waist to steady her as she sat on his lap. “Stelle, be careful. How many times do I have to tell you–”
She ignored him as she flailed around. “Before we went to Amphoreus, you also promised me you’d take me out on a real date! Our first date! Now that everything’s over, surely, the great Earth demigod won’t break a promise like that, right?”

(Stelle knew it was wrong. She knew she was running away regardless of how she phrased it so nicely in her head.)
This wasn’t love in the way stories described it. This was desperation—a selfish craving for something safe, something that wouldn’t reject her or grow distant. But what else could she do? She couldn’t tell the real Dan Heng. She couldn’t even bear the thought of ruining what they had.
So, if creating a reflection of him, a digital shadow, would dull the ache for a little while, then so be it.
It’s the only way, she told herself. The only way she can ease these unbearable feelings without ruining what they have.
