I wanted a cosy but exciting winter story, so I decided to write about Viktuuri as arctic explorers. I was slightly inspired by His Dark Materials trilogy in terms of scholar/explorers and the magical arctic setting, but this is a wholly separate AU and doesn't have any other HDM elements except for daemons.

Summary
