Summary
The breadth-first algorithm is one of many used to solve mazes. Although Wise wouldn't consider it to be the most sophisticated solution for navigating Agents through Hollows, it's a perfect methodology for exploring kinks: explore all possibilities, one node at a time, then decide which path is better. In this case, which kinks both him and Lighter enjoy more.
Well, he thinks it's a good way to go about it, anyway.
