Yuuji Itadori was fucked.
Absolutely, supremely, inexplicably fucked.
Genuinely, totally, super-duper fucked.
Super fucked.
Because standing in the very not-destroyed, dense streets of Shibuya, lined with the bright colors of department stores, hotels, tourist attractions, and advertisements plastered across every available space, Yuuji did not have Choso as support. He didn't have Fushiguro as support. He didn't even have Okkotsu as support.
Yuuji was inconceivably, utmostly, wholly, not-awesomely fucked because he was in the year 2005.
🔴 OR: Stuck over a decade in the past, Yuuji has resolved to do anything to ensure his future doesn't come to be.
It would really be a lot easier if Geto Suguru wasn't so overbearing, if Gojo Satoru wasn't such an asshole, if Ieiri Shoko stopped instigating things, and if Yuuji were just a tiny bit smarter.
But he was on his own, so damn it if he wasn't going to work with what he got.

Summary
His right arm is bent awkwardly in front of himself, trapped against something warm. The left is jammed to one side, but he can wiggle it a bit. With every attempt at movement, Suguru winces as he’s prodded painfully in the ribs or the jaw or the belly.
“Suguru?”
His voice is so close it makes Suguru’s heart jump to the base of his throat. Eight-ish years of no contact and now he can hear the slight wheeze of Satoru’s breath and the soft, minute sounds of his wet tongue and lips. The alpha’s scent permeates the air, thick and almost cloyingly strong, the only kind of sweetness Suguru’s ever really craved.
It’s too much like old times.
After they each arrive at the same cemetery, hunting the same cursed spirit, ex-best friends Suguru and Satoru quickly find themselves trapped together in its domain.

Feeling a telltale fizz on his tongue, Suguru let out a hum of pleasant surprise. Not his favourite flavour in the world, but inoffensive enough. ‘It’s candy,’ he declared. When Satoru said nothing, he turned the sweet around in his mouth, running his tongue along curved edges and pressing it against a rapidly softening point. ‘A candy heart?’
‘Good!’ Satoru clapped his hands with delight. ‘Now, what does it say?’
‘You’re not serious, Satoru.’
‘Am I ever anything but?’

Summary
As such, it goes like this – Suguru Geto takes his last breath on the Uji Bridge, but it is not the conclusion he expects. Instead, it’s a footnote. Because moments later, the audience calls for an encore, and he gasps like a newborn. He takes his first breath, again, and this will be Mark II. He has as little choice in it as he did the first time, when his mother’s cryptic pregnancy came to fruition on their kitchen floor.
The first thing he notices is the afternoon sky. It’s still bright with sun and broken up by infant clouds, all of which have moved a little to the east since he last saw them. The wind is lazy. March is coming to a close, and the scent of sakura is teasing at the horizon.
The second thing he notices is a boy. He’s sitting on the balustrade, chewing a wad of strawberry gum. He has string-bean limbs and hair as pale as lilies. His tea-shades are too dark to see behind, and there’s a plaster wrapped around one of his thumbs. Beneath the hem of his basketball shorts, a pair of grass-stained knees.
“Yo,” he says.

Gojo was just in the middle of responding to something when he heard a voice from behind him, it was deep and velvety with a light musical tone to it, “Okay children, put your shoes on and head on outside.”
His entire body stiffened.
He gripped his phone with enough pressure that he felt it would break, and pressed his back into the side of the building, hiding instinctively.
Why was he here?
Finally Gojo’s eyes found their target: there he was, squatting in front of a crying child, comforting them. He looked bigger than before– of course he did, it’d been over 7 years. He wore his long black hair loose now, with a simple knot holding a few strands back. Gojo’s eyes ate up the sight of the man he hadn’t seen in years.

Summary
Satoru sits there, disbelief etched across his face to such a degree that he almost looks to be in pain. He watches as the enemy, a player who goes by 'Uzumaki', crouches and uncrouches in quick succession, disrespectfully tea bagging his poor and cold lifeless body on the floor.
His jaw hangs agape and his eyes bulge wide in shock. Glaring red letters that spell out 'DEFEAT’ are slapped across his monitor, silently mocking him for such an utterly shameful loss.
And, to Satoru's horror, the only thing he can think to do is to put a message in the game chat.

The first time Suguru meets Gojo, he knows it must be a mistake.
“Are you okay?” are words that should never be coming out of that guy’s mouth. Especially now.
It’s just his luck; his shitty, good-for-nothing luck that landed him a soulmate that’s the complete opposite of what he likes.
Suguru knows his type. Mild. Kind. Brown eyes, maybe. Someone that he can talk to easily and stay silent with just as well. Not this arrogant, snarky, loudmouth of a sorcerer. Suguru barely got the chance to summon his cursed spirits before the guy came jumping into his scene, laughing like it’s all a joke as he exorcises a Grade 2 with a swipe of his fingers.
“Suguru-kun, you have a kind soulmate,” he remembers his aunt telling him. “Their first words are out of worry for you.”
He looks back at Gojo, bashing a curse’s head into the concrete, gleeful like a child with a new toy, and thinks, bullshit.

Summary
Suguru begins to wonder if it’s lonely for Gojo. Keeping an inch between him and the world.
Not an inch, a voice that sounds suspiciously like Shoko reminds him. Infinity.
But does it feel like infinity? When summer’s humidity swells to its peak, can Gojo feel the pressure? When a barrage of low-level curses ambushes them in Roppongi, can he sense their velocity, the twist of the wind? When Suguru grazes the immovable space between them – hands him a test paper, shoulders past him in the corridor, reaches out, unthinking, to slap him on the back – does Gojo know the warmth of Suguru's skin?
Then, on July 12th, in a sour-smelling alley in Katsushika ward, Suguru catches him. Hunched over, spindly legs crouched, a street-worn cat pressing her nose to his fingertips. It licks her sandpaper tongue over his knuckles. Rubs the flat of her forehead against his palm. Gojo hums, pushing a tangled cowlick back with his thumb, a serene little smile on his face.
Yes, Suguru thinks. It must be lonely.
(Trauma is complicated, brains are strange, and Satoru Gojo is not immune to either of these truths.)

Summary
No one could know she brought them back. Even powerless (weak), even as non-sorcerers (monkeys), even without the higher-ups, universal law dictates that they would only be used again. And Shoko, a bona fide necromancer? She would never know peace.
She knows, now, that her job was never about saving people. It had always been about fitting for purpose; getting fodder back on its feet for another round in the ring. Shoko was tired. Their revival would be her final act of service, and it would be purely selfish. The only person she told was Okkotsu, who she felt would understand the most. He had been the one to puppet the monster, after all.
So, she signed their death certificates with love and a flourish, and booked the next ferry to Shanghai.
(At the end of all things, in a lighthouse in North Uist, Shoko, Satoru, and Suguru persist.)

Blowing his bangs out of his eyes, Suguru frowned. ‘It isn’t alive, Satoru, it can’t feel anything.’
‘Sure he can!’ Satoru argued, stifling a snort when Suguru started furiously scooping out innards. He was beginning to wonder if his best friend didn’t have a bit of a sadistic streak. ‘And he has a name, Suguru!’

Criminal psychologist Geto being transferred a rather.. unique case. How much of the previous notes were true? He wonders, looking at the blindfolded teen across the glass wearing an unreadable expression.
He didn’t.. actually have six eyes under there right?
The boy suddenly lets out a loud guffaw, startling Geto out of his thoughts. Get it together Suguru, god. “You’d really believe anything they tell ya huh?”
“No.” Geto straightens up, hardening his tone. He was not going to be taken for a fool on his first day, least of all by some smarmy brat, “I’m here to find out for myself just who you are.”
“Gojo Satoru,” the blind teen grins, “The closest to god you mortals will ever have the grace of meeting.”
