Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in the early hours of August 29th, 2005. Third year resident Michael Robinavitch and pre army medic Jack Abbot find themselves waiting it out in Charity Hospital together, and then helping to deal with the aftermath.
“You could still go, you know. The paramedics at the Superdome need you more than we do.” Robby shoves his hands into pockets and doesn’t dare glance over. He doesn’t know what he wants to see in Jack’s expression, but an inclination to leave might be the worst. He wants to keep this feeling, however selfishly. He clears his throat. “You should go.”
Thankfully, Jack only shakes his head. “If this goes south, they’ll need all the muscle they can get. I’d only be adding to the patient list.” He bumps Robby’s shoulder with his own. “Besides, I’d rather be here.”
