Summary

Summary
In a universe where humans colonized the solar system along Cold War lines, it's possible to create AI "replacements" of the fallen. In theory, replacements are perfect copies: same body, same consciousness, and Dick Winters has his reasons for wanting no part of them. But when the war turns hot and Dick dies on a combat mission, Nix impulsively arranges for his replacement. When Dick returns to the troopship Toccoa, everything has changed, except—theoretically—him.
