Summary
Good things don't happen to people like them. Good things happen to people that don't wake up choking back screams in the middle of the night, to people that don't think about the easiest way to incapacitate everyone else in the room, to people that step into the shower and feel clean coming out.
So it's only a manner of time before this team, this tower, this annoying group of people who are starting to feel like family, turn their backs on them. Because good things don't happen to them.
(Or the fic where Clint is waiting for everything to blow up in their faces and everyone else thinks the no returns policy is heavily bolded and red underlined.)

Summary
The first time Clint gets assassinated by the Winter Soldier, he doesn't see it coming, which is quite a testament to the guy's skills. Clint dies all the time, but usually he's aware that it's happening. It's been decades since anyone caught him off-guard like this.
"Coward!" he yells down the dark alley he was ambushed from, as soon as his larynx is healed enough to function. "Get back here and murder me to my face!"

The next day, she grabbed a basket and put her brother in it.
The four month old baby blinked sleepily at her, and she grinned, “Hey, brother. This is for my own good,” she’d heard something like that yesterday at the movies, and it sounded cool.
She carried the basket into the Preserve, taking care not to wake her sleeping parents, and walked for a while before setting it gently on the ground.
“Animals of the forests!” she cried, “This is my offering to you! Take this baby in exchange for my family’s safety!” // Laura has tried to abandon her siblings 13 times (each), has convinced Scott that life isn't real in 8 occasions, and she's made her parents wish they'd stayed childless about 1000 times, but not really.
