“You’re here an awful lot, Mr. Saporta.” William remarked, as he started clicking around on his computer, stopping for a moment to make a note of which book Gabe had taken out.
“Just utilizing my public resources, isn’t this what I pay taxes for?” Gabe had replied, smirking at William again. William didn’t look him in the eyes, instead focusing on the screen, trying to will away the heat that was starting to build in his face.

Summary
Mikie found herself looking up at her ceiling, the spots barely illuminated by her bedside lamp. The sun was down now, Willow should be over this already. Things were going so good with the band, they’d survived so many ups and downs – they were doing everything they could have ever wanted to as a band. Why didn’t it feel like they were succeeding? Why didn’t it feel like they were as happy as they should be?
“Mikie?” Sisky’s voice cuts through the silence, sweet and girlish. “I’m sure she’s gonna answer soon. You know how she is.”
“She’s the most difficult human being on earth,” Mikie agreed, letting out a laugh – not because it was funny, but because she was nervous, and she didn’t know how else to expel the feeling. “I wish she would just answer my calls already. Or yours. Something.”

“Sometimes, it feels like I was born on another planet,” remarked his companion, William, who was currently balancing Gabe’s cigarette between two lithe fingers. If it was anybody else Gabe might not have been as willing to share, but William had a way of worming his way into getting whatever the hell he wanted. Gabe would say it had everything to do with the graceful ways he moved, but the real answer was in those puppy-dog brown eyes. William needed only to bat his eyelashes once and he could likely bring empires to his knees. Gabe would tell him as much too, if they were only a few more drinks deep.

“You can’t just become a captain, you have to earn your title. I’ve been on ships since I was just a boy, and now I’m finally ready to run my own.” He explained, a little less confident sounding than he would have liked.
The creature made a bored little noise of acknowledgment, and William watched the way they fidgeted in the sand.
“Now I am Captain Beckett, of The Academy,” He informed the creature, attempting to garner a reaction. When they looked back up at him again their eyes were wide with curiosity, and he smiled. “We’re bringing precious cargo down to the southernmost islands of the kingdom, official business of our very own queen.”
“Captain Beckett,” The creature repeated, trying to get the words right in their mouth, and smiling all the while. Maybe he shouldn’t have told them his name, they seemed a little too excited to know it. “Bringing treasure to the southern isles!”

“I’d hardly call it amazing,” he replied, crossing one leg over the other and taking the mug in one hand. “It’s more exhausting than anything else, honestly.”
“Are you kidding me? You have to be one of the most sensitive empaths in the world, if everything I’ve heard about them is true. I think that’s incredible.” Gabe could easily ask William about it all day, wanting to pick apart every detail he possibly could. He always wanted to know more.
“That’s the problem – I’m high-sensitivity.” William pointed out, shaking the pointer finger on his free hand in Gabe’s direction before taking a sip of his drink.
“I don’t see how that’s a problem, you seem well put together.” Aside from the chaotic apartment and the sort of wild look in his eyes when he talked about it, William seemed remarkably normal. Intelligent, a little cocky even, he didn’t seem unstable at all. Eccentric, sure, but he wasn’t dangerous.
