Summary
Now, lying pensively on his back with a patch over his good eye, Raph waited for dawn with a foolish mixture of dread and hope. Dread that it was his birthday. Hope that perhaps celebrating him would allow his family to cast off the burdens they shouldered, at least for one short day. Though Raph had hated his own birthday for nearly as long as he could remember, he knew well the joy of celebrating someone else’s. If he could provide that same kindness to his family, he was happy to put aside his own trepidation.
(In which Raph doesn't mind casting himself aside until it's too late.)
