"Then,” Sasuke ventures, “what would you like for your birthday?”
“Honestly? Nothing,” Sakura answers. “I just wanna be left alone.”
“How so?”
“You know, I would just really like to be able to sit down and finally have the time to get some progress on my research,” Sakura tells him, bringing them back to the topic at hand. “Have I told you about it? It’s about neural stem cell activation for spinal cord regeneration. It’s one of the research projects I started a couple of months after the war to help paralyzed patients to regain motor function after severe injuries, but I haven’t made any headway with it in a while because of how busy I’ve been—well, am. I miss being able to read and write papers.”
"That can be arranged."
"Sasuke," she sounds wary but sends him a grateful smile anyway. “You don’t have to.”
"I will take care of everything."
