Not exactly as common, but prevalent enough. It can be taken to an absurd extreme.As so,
"The early bird gets the worm." to "I should get up early, so I can get the worm."Another example, "Without fire, the peace of the theatre club can never rise from the ashes."
Hokuto has time to think about figures of speech now.

Summary
It's easy for Tsumugi to settle down with his kids and remain at peace with the fact he's single, it's what he's been doing for the past sixteen years. Natsume, on the other hand, has found himself too engrossed in his career that settling or slowing down hasn't been an option for him.
However, finding each other again by chance was in Tsumugi's fortune, but not Natsume's predictions.
