“I’m sorry, I think you’ve got the wrong number,” the woman cut her off.
Vi felt her face go so hot she was sure that it was visibly steaming in the winter air. Of course it was a fucking wrong number - just the cherry on top of an already shit morning. She struggled to conjure up some sort of apology. Instead, what came out was, “Oh. Well, thank god, because I was feeling really bad about yelling at someone who sounds so sexy.”
As soon as the words left her mouth she wished she had a spare hand to cram them back inside. She was considering just abruptly hanging up when a breathy chuckle filtered across the line.
“Awfully bold for someone who’s ranting about cement to a stranger at eight o’clock in the morning.”

“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”
OR
Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.

This is an enemies to friends with benefits to lovers arc set in a modern coffee shop/café AU. I am writing it specifically at the request of my wife, who has a thing for barista-centric fanfics and loves Caitlyn/Vi. Chapter titles are quotes from Arcane.

Every delicate press of Vi’s fingers, every slow stroke, sends a jolt through her chest. She feels as though the air in the room has grown thicker, like she’s being pulled into something she’s not sure she wants to understand. As Vi opens her mouth to respond, she catches Caitlyn's watchful eye, and traces her gaze back to the movement of her fingers.
Vi tilts her head, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “What are you, jealous? Can’t handle a little fun?”

Caitlyn’s always been a little bit hungry for attention and way too much of a people pleaser for her own good. Maybe being an only child with two career driven parents gave her some sort of complex, or maybe she just likes being lavished with praise. At the end of the day, the reason doesn’t really matter.
