"My bandaged palms scraped furiously against the stone and ice around me, chest heaving as I attempted to rise. I did not understand where I laid. Was this how Icefyre felt, trapped helplessly within ice and rock? I could only hope my body would give out to my misery within a few minutes without air and space, rather than his centuries of anguish. Without even meaning to, I cried out wordlessly. My voice filled the nonexistent space with a terrified wail at my confinement, locked between the horrid, skill-dripping stone and the icy floor. I thrashed, not understanding where I lay trapped and reopening every agony previously etched into my body. My back protested furiously, and I wondered if the warmth pooling beneath me was simply the heat of our furs and bodies, or if it was my own blood."

I dared not look at him. I could not bear to look at him, for even blind, I knew he would see me for exactly what I was if I did.
The murmurs in my head grew louder, more insistent. The ache between my legs intensified. I gazed unseeingly at the naked, writhing figures before us, etched eternally into stone, a monument to the passions and follies of flesh. The image of the Elderling warriors' ardent embrace stubbornly refused to leave my mind. Such things that they did I had never seen done before, had never so much as dreamed of in all my life.
I wanted to do those things, too.
