Oddly enough, Kaoru didn't protest when he felt gravity leave him, but instead, he threw his arms around Rei's neck and leaned his head against his chest, much like a cat would. Secured as he felt, the words just came on and about from his mouth.
Rei's little sigh was all but bothered. A happy Kaoru was better than a sad one.

There’s a blanket draped over them both that Kaoru doesn’t remember being there when he fell asleep, another undeserved act of kindness on Kanata’s part. He can almost imagine his reaction to finding him like this, giving him a few curious pokes with his finger while tilting his head this way and that, maybe leaning in to try and talk to him, all “Kao~ru~ Did you die?”.
Wait, shit, no— thinking about his voice right now isn’t helping either. Thinking about Kanata at all is banned until he can get out of here and take care of this mess he has on his hands … or will soon, anyway.
