Summary
Fully convinced he’s just in a hyper-realistic dream of Nod’s doing, he squeezes her hand in an attempt to dissolve the delusion. Though heavenly, if this lasts any longer he thinks he might suffer from stress-induced cardiomyopathy once it’s over.
The faerie in front of him doesn’t disappear into a cloud of starry smoke like he expected, however; she instead turns to him, cocks an eyebrow, and holds his hand even tighter. It seems that there’s no fantasy here except the natural kind that always seems to shroud her: all twilight and allure, theatrics and mischief. This is real. He is not in Nod.
He supposes he’s thankful for that, else he probably would’ve vomited a kaleidoscope of butterflies at her face just now.

The woman – Rio, if Agatha remembers correctly, Jesus fucking Christ – only mumbles something in response and turns over, away from the noise. On her back, right below her neck, the black tendrils of a tattoo spiral across her shoulder blades.
Agatha’s too fucking old for this. “Get up,” she repeats. She’s been teaching for over twenty years; she knows how to make her voice carry in a room.

Lady Harkness dragged her eyes slowly down the stablehand’s body, taking in the state of her threadbare clothes and most certainly not lingering on the silhouette of labour-hardened muscles beneath the loose fit of her shirt. She carried a dagger. Sheathed at her hip. When the Lady returned her gaze to the dark stare of her subject, she made sure to pierce her with a look of haughty disdain, “Lucky for you, I reserve foul-mouthedness for the destitute.”
Her comment, whilst intended to offend, instead coaxed a pleased smirk from the younger woman, “Hmm, I suppose I should not be surprised that nobility such as yourself would be so partial to hypocrisy.”
