Percy is a soloist with the ballet company, and he is offered one chance to dance with Annabeth, one of their star principals. If he nails the choreography, he might just earn a chance to dance with her. And, if he's really lucky, he might get a date out of it as well.

The thought of being irrational is far outside of his mind at this point, though. It’s rocketed outwards, the space being filled with more primal, baser feelings that he should be able to ignore. He just can’t, though. It’s like a switch has flipped and short-circuited everything else in his mind besides what he’s seeing in front of him.

Annabeth’s stomach twists, just a little. Someone important. Someone probably chosen for something. Someone the gods had plans for. She thinks, not for the first time, about the way her life seems to follow a pattern she didn’t design.
Running away at seven and being guided by that owl that always stared at her in such an unsettling way that she never knew if she might prefer going back to the spiders rather than following it. She did not do that, though. She followed the creature right up to that alley were Luke and Thalia found her, and then she never saw it again. The job was complete.
“Or someone the gods were watching.” She murmurs.
