Summary
“Dominic. Let’s assess the situation here. We’re in a car. I’m driving a car I’ve never driven before. In a city I’ve never driven in before. In a country that I’m not even sure you can identify, and I’m sharing aforementioned car with this tit who seems utterly intent on getting into my pants before getting into Britain. And it’s fucking boiling. And I’m hungover. And I’m thirsty. I’ve been wearing this suit for twenty-four hours or something now. I don’t remember when I last ate. There is sweat running down my back and it tickles. And I’m still not sure which side of the road I’m supposed to be on.”
September 2010. A neurotic engineer and a self-obsessed actor get stranded in Istanbul and agree to drive home together.

Summary
“What is it?”
“I’ll tell you on the way.”
Just once, Leonardo would like to say no. He would like to say Tell me now or you won’t have me, I won’t come, I won’t help, even though you never asked for my help, because you’ve never asked for help in your life. He thinks about it. It’s a mark of how untenable that position would be, that he can’t decide how Primo — predictable-unpredictable Primo, hurricane Primo — would react. Maybe he’d shoot him in the head. Maybe he’d push him from a high place and leave him to gasp in breaths until his punctured lungs collapsed. Maybe he’d do nothing at all. Leonardo sighs, draws a hand over his face. “Let me get dressed, at least. I’m not letting you drive me halfway across Calabria in my pyjamas.”
“I’ll be in the car.”

Summary
That night, with Merriell one bed over, Eugene has a dream about running around in the thickets and trees that hug the camp, dragging his feet when they refuse to cooperate, blades of crabgrass biting at his soles. One of the sporadic bedroom checks wakes him up, the flashlight's beam stretching from the door to his face and pressing at his eyelids. It lingers on Merriell far longer. Something makes Eugene not want to look at him: his slight figure under the covers, lamplit eyes peering out and seeking out even the slightest flicker of light to reflect.
1996. Eugene and Merriell share a bedroom at God's Hope, a conversion camp. Written for Sledgefu Week 2019, for the movie and TV AU, loosely based on The Miseducation of Cameron Post.

What he will remember is the way the lights from the bar make the pavement burn blue, and how it reminds him of fire, even as the rain leaks into his shoes and drenches his socks in a slow crawl, heel first, reaching for the toe.
