Summary
There’s the explosion.
Except in this case, his body doesn’t splatter in a million different places on the walls. That’d be too easy. No, his stupid body stays stuck on a stupid couch in a stupid room of a stupid firehouse.
~~
Eddie knew not telling Buck about Max would blow up in his face, but he did it anyway. Once the truth comes out, there's no way back to how it was; there's only the fallout.

Summary
Eddie loads the metaphorical gun, cocks it. “I would’ve found my way to you. That I'm even more sure of.”
Buck is burning. That’s the only way he can describe this. Eddie says something like that, and then Buck will end the call, and he’ll crawl into Eddie’s bed in Eddie’s house and stare at the patches in Eddie’s bedroom wall that he helped Eddie patch up, and he’ll pretend like this isn’t going to kill him. He’s entirely convinced he’s going to die before Eddie ever crosses the California state line again.
He digs his own grave. “You sound confident for a guy who doesn’t believe in fate.”
“Nah, it’s not fate. It’s us and pure determination.”

Summary
Buck is a lot. Eddie knows Buck is a lot. Buck knows Buck is a lot.
But every single person who ever said that to Buck said it like a warning. Like a disclaimer, a heads-up, a you-should-know-what-you're-getting-into before getting too close so they can't say they weren't told.
And Eddie has never, not once, wanted Buck to be less.
The surplus, the overflow, the fourth tangent on a story that started somewhere else entirely — that's not the price of Buck. That is Buck. And more of Buck has only ever meant more to love, and Eddie spent enough years running on empty to know what it means when someone fills up every room they walk into so completely that Eddie is overflowing with it most days.
"Eddie. Are you listening?"
Eddie nods. "Gym Katie is alone at the gym and she's upset."
Buck blinks. His mouth is still open from the sentence he was about to say, his hands still mid-gesture, and he looks genuinely thrown, like he expected to catch Eddie zoning out and instead got caught himself. Caught being heard.
"You were listening," Buck says, a little breathlessly.
Eddie smiles. "I'm always listening."

Summary
‘Uncle Buck?’ Jee asks, once they’ve all calmed down and her attention shifts back to the tea party.
‘Yeah, sweetie?’
‘Can I wear my Elsa dress to yours and Uncle Eddie’s wedding?’
In what is possibly his least proudest moment, Buck chokes on his tea. On his invisible, not really there because they’re having a pretend tea party, tea.

Summary
Something strange hums in Buck’s stomach and he can’t stop himself from blurting, “Who was that?”
“Who was- oh, uh,” Eddie hesitates, “No one.”
Buck raises an eyebrow as a very not-no-one buzz comes through again. “No one?”
Eddie rolls his eyes without any real annoyance, “It’s just Alex.”
Or
After Buck hooks up with Alex, Eddie decides to fuck around.
They both find out.Bookmarked by deanitsnotbroken

Summary
"So," Buck says, sliding onto the seat next to Eddie while the auction winds down around them. "Mystery bidder. That's exciting."
Eddie takes a very deliberate sip of water. "Yep."
"You know who it was?"
"Nope."
"You don't even seem curious," Buck tries.
"Not really."
"Someone spent over two grand on you, Eddie. On a date with you. Like a date-date. With food and conversation. And you're just— what, chill about it?"
Eddie shrugs. The picture of nonchalance. "It's for charity."
"It's for— okay." Buck gapes. He’s got nothing. He’s standing at the door and Eddie has deadbolted it from the inside. "Cool. Great."
It is not cool. It is not great. Buck is aware that his definition of cool and great has always been somewhat flexible, but this doesn't qualify under any interpretation.
Or,
Buck just wants to know who bid on Eddie. That's it. That's all he wants. He's being totally normal about it.Bookmarked by deanitsnotbroken
