The kitchen and everything in it, including Smitty, smells like vanilla.
Mack loves the smell. Just last night after Will was done with baking, he buried his face in the crook of Will’s neck and sniffed him like an over-eager dog.
Will had called him a weirdo for it, but Mack is far past caring. He knows deep down that Will likes that about him, loves his weirdest, messiest parts like it’s as easy as breathing. And Mack doesn’t mind showing these parts of him if it’s with Will.
Will, who’s busy in the kitchen again today, just like he was yesterday. Watching the Great British Bake off with his mom and Grace for years turned out a valuable asset to further endear himself to his teammates and after the success of his banana bread at Thanksgiving, Will has turned their kitchen into Santa’s Cookie Workshop.
If only there wasn’t one problem. All the cookies he bakes, Will lamented to the team yesterday, mysteriously vanish overnight.

Mack feels lonely because Will isn't there with him, and even worse because Will is going to Massachusetts for Christmas, while he is stuck in California. He talks to Will after the game, and they decide that Mack is going to come out to Massachusetts to be with him. They come to some realizations.

After being put on IR because of his shoulder injury, Will is struggling with this new restricted temporary life. While he was annoyed by Mack’s suffocating overprotectiveness and not being able to play in the upcoming games, the thing that frustrated Will the most was Mack’s refusal to be intimate with him.
Feeling suffocated and rejected, Will finally ran out of patience.

It's the first win of the season. Mack's scored a hat trick, Smitty the OT winner. It's against the Rangers (stupid team that broke Mack's car), and Mack knows that it's their first win after 6 hard losses, knows that they won't be playoff contenders - not even close - but in that moment, it didn't matter. None of it did. Not when his teammates were crushing him in a hug, all smiles and adrenaline. Not when Will was right in the middle of that hug, an arm around his waist as he pulled him closer, touching what would've been their foreheads together had there not been any helmets, whispering something only for Mack to hear.
