Hermann is on the outs with his Magic: The Gathering group for using too much math. Newt had no idea that Hermann even had a Magic: The Gathering group, and frankly, he’s fascinated by the whole idea. Hermann has hobbies?!
Newt has to get in on this. Sure, he’s never played before, but what could go wrong? He can learn. Hermann can teach him. He’ll be great at it, and, bonus, they can spend some quality time together.

“Why are you dressed like the bride who’s gonna get ganked in a horror movie?” Newt demanded, indicating Hermann’s dressing gown.
Hermann almost glanced at his own outfit, but he already knew what it looked like, and he refused to be embarrassed for being comfortable. “You need to move your foot, or else I am not responsible for what happens next, and you will have to tell the medical team as much.”
Newt did not budge, only grabbed the door with one hand when he tried to close it. “No, no, knock it off, I’m trying to talk to you for once, and you don’t get to pick some stupid fight and ruin it like you do every time.”
Hermann took an indignant breath in through his nose. “Like I do every time? Who, precisely, started off this conversation by insulting me?”
“I wasn’t—the girls who get ganked are always the hot ones. Now hush up and stop distracting me.”

Summary
It’s not as though Newt’s oblivious to the sexual elements of his performances. He knows, objectively, that dragging his hand down his throat to crawl down his chest and below is sexually provoking. His usual outfits don’t leave much to the imagination and BVR’s lyrics would require half of any song censored should it be broadcasted publicly. (There’s a reason he hasn’t mentioned his band to Hermann yet.) But to actually confront the effects, that desire? Newt’s developing his strangest brand of imposter syndrome yet, but fuck if he isn’t turned on.
