Summary
For only a second, and maybe she imagined it, Carol thought she saw a glimmer of the most human expression Zosia had worn yet: annoyance.
“And you’ll still be working on reversing this?” Zosia asked.
“We wouldn’t be very good heroes if we didn’t, now would we?”

or: Carol and Manousos have found a way to (maybe) undo the apocalypse. They need a willing(?) participant to help their cause.

One thing about Tom Cruise is that he had had aliens in his brain long before there were aliens in his brain, Carol thinks, so probably this was all going really great for him.

Summary
“Not that I don’t enjoy scorching on the outskirts of New Mexico with you—” she starts off, her hand trailing from Zosia’s chin in order to card through chlorine-tipped stray hairs. “—But I’m going to burn through my reading list eventually… hah, I never thought that would be something I’d say and believe.”
Read to your heart's desire, Carol—we’ll wait on sun-baked earth and in country club pools for however long it takes; recover the texts lost to the Library of Alexandria if you must.
—or, snapshots of the world's most delusional honeymoon period.

Summary
“Have you ever fucked on a plane?”
The question slips past Carol’s lips without second thought. Albuquerque lights glowing beneath her. Lights that will soon shut off. A sadistic asshole left behind at her cul-de-sac with nothing but his thoughts and machete to keep him company.
She looks to her left. Zosia is busy glitching out. Eyes distant. The question too much for seven billion brains.
“I know that ‘You,’ capital ‘y’ have,” Carol clarifies. “I’m asking about Zosia. Pre-joining.”
“Yes, I understood,” Zosia replies. Flashing that eerily pleasant smile Carol’s way. “And no. I never did something like that. Travel wasn’t common for me.”
OR
Carol confronts her past as she and Zosia flee Albuquerque.
