Aiden has a profound, part-time interest in uncovering the mysterious, unexplained deaths that have been occurring all too frequently. As his research on the top has grown, so have his findings; leading him to suspect a blood-sucking killer to be behind the cases. His discoveries have not gone un-noticed however, and tonight he finds himself unlucky and yet luckier than most.
This was originally intended to draw on for more chapters, but was unfortunately abandoned.

Scanlan is rarely openly concerned for them, even now, and part of Vax hurts to reject him like this. But most of him is scared, and humiliated, and hurting. Most of him has never known how to trust anyone but his sister, and even then, there have always been things that he’s kept from Vex’ahlia. “Worried? That’s not like you. I assure you that if you’re concerned about my ability to keep up with the rest of you in battle, I continue to be rather handy with a knife.” The deflection is easy, and Vax knows as soon as he says it that Scanlan doesn’t buy a word of it.
( A little coda to episode 25, about Vax dealing with his brush with death and Scanlan Shorthalt being a surprisingly good friend. )

“Worried about my pretty face Freddie?” Percy could feel his cheeks flushing and he hoped that Vax was either too drunk to notice, or if he did, he’d put it down to the heat of the tavern.
“Worried about what your sister would do to me if I let you get injured on my watch.” As he spoke, Percy helped Vax stumble to his feet and sling an arm around his shoulder. Vax’s next words were mumbled against his shirt and barely comprehensible.
“Mmm, that’s true, she’d string you up by your balls.” Percy winced at the graphic image that painted and tightened his grip on Vax as they made their way out of the tavern and back towards their home.
