如果是刚出生的婴儿，手心里攥着母亲滑溜溜的脐带，眼皮的褶皱间充满黄色的羊水，悲哀地大哭，并不是老生常谈地对于降生的愤怒，而是一种本能的感动。对于自己擦肩而过的死亡，又对于取代死亡而降临的新生，感知到无法违拗的命运的意志吧。无论生和死都不能带走的，而必须要直视的命运的意志啊。直井怜的双眼和怪物的双眼对视了。后者眼眶里发灰的灯泡，正无精打采地保持着微弱的光亮。在那一瞬间，直井怜想起了很多双相似的眼睛。眼睛的主人们，既没有敢于凝视意志的勇气，也没有和命运对视的能力。一旦见到真正的不可撼动之物，便啼哭不已，用泪水模糊自己受伤的眼珠，直到视网膜脱落，从主观上将一切的真实放逐为止。
