The first time Kaoru coughed petals was on his thirteenth birthday.
His parents had forgotten what day it was for the third year in a row, and getting a B in his Japanese written exam only worsened his mood, and then Kojiro was held back during lunch because his strictest teacher caught him doodling skateboard designs in his margins.
So, when it got to the end of the day, Kaoru was exhausted and just wanted to go home.
And he told Kojiro as much as they hopped on their boards, he summed up his day because he hadn’t even seen the boy since that morning and he was convinced he was going clinically insane. But Kojiro had laughed, nudged his shoulder half-heartedly, and said, “I guess I’ll eat the cake by myself then.”
And he’d bailed.
But Kojiro had been there to pick him right back up again.

Kaoru has hanahaki over his best friend. So what does he do? Ignore it, obviously.
