Summary
Jason wasn’t expecting it to go as wrong as it did. Missions going wrong was basically a given at that point—you could plan and plan, but there was simply no being prepared for everything—but this? This went beyond the normal levels of screwed up.
He and Dick were sent back home to Gotham, Batman having called them in for help with staking out two of Two-Face’s caches. It was supposed to be a brief thing, something he needed extra—but trusted—help with. He had taken one of the locations, bringing Babs with him, while Dick and Jason were sent to the other one, which was assumed to be the lesser of the two. It was annoying that he and Dick were being sent off to the lame one, but once they got there, his mind changed a little bit. It was sort of nice, sneaking around alongside Dick, who felt more and more like a brother as time had gone on.

Summary
Shaking himself out of it, he ignores the few texts Bruce has sent, the missed call from Alfred, and texts the groupchat between Artemis, Wally, and himself. Need a cuddle sesh, he says, glad that they’re getting more comfortable with the whole thing. It’s obvious his friends need it, and he won’t deny it helps him, too. It’s nice to lay down with them, two people he trusts and cares about and loves, and just relax. Just be.
The only downside, really, is that it’s difficult to be around them and not notice things. Like how bright Artemis’ rare smiles are, and how her ponytail swings when she gets really animated, and how every once in a while, she grabs his hand and doesn’t say anything. Like how Wally says stupid things sometimes just to make them laugh, and how he knows their exact favorite flavors of things, and how much he loves science and math. Like how Dick is totally, and pretty inappropriately, starting to crush on them both big time.

On the bedside table, his phone buzzes, clattering against the wood loudly. Tim rolls over onto his stomach, reaching out for it and blissfully popping something in his back. When he sees it’s Kon, he quickly answers it, wondering why his friend is calling so early in the morning. Well, normal people’s mornings. And if it’s early for him in Gotham, it’s gotta be even worse out in little ole Smallville, Kansas.
“Kon? You okay?”
“What? Yeah, I’m fine.” Kon yawns, and Tim can hear his jaw crack, and the soft ‘hmm’ noise he makes afterwards. “S’just, Bart woke me up? He said he heard from Wally who heard from Barry that something’s going on. So I wanted to make sure you were okay. Don’t need any backup, do you?”
