“What – what is –”, Eftirvit can barely manage to get a word out, much less call for aid – and Hroptatyr is out of hearing range by now, certainly. Would he even help him with whatever this is? Only minutes before Eftirvit would not have doubted his friend's reliability, but now there is only cold anger and uncertainty and endless confusion.

Summary
The beginning of it all is such: Veritas, with his unending headache, and little wherewithal to deal with it— does the sensible thing and retreats to familiar, fond places to rest and recoup.
It is under his favorite apple tree, the one on his home planet he had practically grown up beside. This is where it happens. When he finds himself falling into a sea of calm, closing his eyes and merely letting his thoughts drift by and through him, the universe deigns to answer his question. The solution to his headache.
An apple falls.
Three, two, one.
