Summary
Sasuke’s grin was magnificent as it was infuriating, “Seem to remember you wishing to be included in all my schemes.”
Naruto’s own words felt unconvincing: “You’re fucked.”
Sasuke rolled his eyes, “Neji’s aware, if that settles your inherent need to please everyone.”
He felt the heat return to his cheeks, “Shut up.” He insisted, “If that were the case, I’d be in his position, wouldn’t I?”
Sasuke nodded emphatically, “That’s true. Then, I suppose, it’s just reserved for me now?”
Or, Sasuke and Naruto are a little misguided, but really, they're just in love.

Bookmarker's Notes
this is naruto uzumaki and sasuke uchiha written by an author who thoroughly understands their friction, the praxis of their relationship in canonverse, their struggles, and their …. mountains.
in easier words, and words maybe write sasuke uchiha wud have wanted me to use instead of purple prosing in an attempt to hide that this is fluff, this is a rly great piece with great characterization. i just feel so strongly about how it is a challenge to write characters outside canonverse, when the shinobi world has vastly different rules and societal dynamics imposed. ie. how are we going to still write about itachi and the uchiha clan if murder in modern day au is not as easy as it is in canonverse? or how do we translate the depth of naruto’s ninja way/great optimism when vying for hokage/wanting to save sasuke isnt a clear translatable thing in modern day aus. there are so many ways to do it, to twist and bend the characters too but wow. this truly felt like . a branch of their canon universe.
my only gripe about this is im left to imagine what and how their relationship progresses after they leave japan. how does the friend group exist as well/broach their separation? what r the lives of the other people like? what does kakashi actually do …. and its great to be frustrated to not know because these characters and stories and backgrounds feel palpable and its all thanks to the writer as well.
mad props to the research and worldbuilding of the music journalism industry. it actually also inspired me to write down my serious thoughts on music :| while rolling stone feels less legitimate and more of a cash mill for marketing nowadays (see: taylor swift’s the life of a showgirl critical acclaim for an album thats absolute dogcrap), this work just transports you into that world. also, the introduction of other legends in the story and their characterization, the music knowledge and criticism of the author is also well informed its so cool. its both a character study and a way to immerse u in showbiz and the nitty gritty behind it.

this was a very interesting read and perspective to write from. being memorialized war heroes and their heroification v. reading into their letters instead and looking past their image. this is a very fitting take of the canon, it reads like a short film or something that actually happens.
i think one central theme of part ii of naruto would be misogyny and homophobia in a ~way~ and this stretches that theme very well, looking into their marriages and being more truthful to canon with how it was only ever naruto and sasuke who truly understood each other. but they don't write it that way but show it with the other characters that surround their life.
anyway this is a really good fic that flows realistically and fits post 700 canon very well. if u also r a history nerd i think ud enjoy how they approached writing this fic.
thank u to the translator and the author :)
