He turned instantly, shrugging off whatever he’d been considering and crossing the room in hungry strides. He sat on the edge of the bed, clasping her hand between his and looking at her with his brow furrowed and his mouth as pinched as she’d seen it since the last time they’d managed to make some unlikely escape. He was never as angry as he got when she was (as he was wont to intone in a voice he thought was authoritative and sententious but mostly spoke of his childhood predilection for tantrums) “careless, Enola.”
“Enola,” he breathed, sounding as if the word had been punched out of him.

The boys weirdly get snowed in at one point. In Southern California, go figure. Nick helps Charlie see that he's deserving of big, loud love from a certain golden retriever person.
