Summary
He barely registers Buck entering the locker room until Buck sits beside him and their shoulders brush. The panic dissolves at the contact. Eddie’s breathing evens out. His palms stop sweating. His pulse slows, as his body has finally decided it’s safe again.
“So,” Buck starts, voice light but curious. “That was…”
“Incredibly predictable for you,” Eddie says, laughing a little too quickly.
“Hey,” Buck protests, mock-offended.
“I wasn’t expecting them to be married, though,” Eddie adds, calmer now, grounded by Buck’s presence.
“Eddie,” Buck says, incredulous, “that was hardly the most surprising part.”
“What? Someone asking you to be a third?” Eddie shrugs. “That cannot be new for you.”
Buck tilts his head. “What do you mean by that?”
That you’re kind and beautiful and impossible not to want, Eddie thinks, but keeps to himself.

Summary
Eddie thinks he should be mad that Chris chose not to interview him for his “Most Influential Adult in Your Life” assignment at school. You’d think raising a kid for 14 years would easily grant him that title – all the video game purchases and packed lunches, the long nights and the roof over their heads should have made him a shoo-in.
He should be pissed. Honestly, how embarrassing is it, that his own son wouldn’t consider his dad the most influential person in his life? But Eddie just cannot find it in himself to care, because Chris has chosen his sunshine of a best friend, Evan Buckley – his Buck – to wear that crown.

Summary
He could almost feel Eddie’s hand on his shoulder, a finger pointed at him held in the small space between their faces.
Eddie had told him he wasn’t the only one hurting – that Buck only ever thought of himself. So maybe, Buck thought, it was time to be selfless.
– or –
After everything they’ve been through – earthquakes, bullets, breakups, and Bobby – Buck thought he’d finally found his place in the Diaz household. But when grief tightens its grip and the walls start closing in, Buck makes a decision he thinks is selfless: to give Eddie and Chris some space.
Only, neither of them are ready to let him go.
