Summary
Frank Harkness sends an eleven hour long video of a new method of mental conditioning used on River to the Park. Diana Taverner does her due diligence and shows the Slow Horses. They sit with the new problem and with no other options other than watching in hopes of gaining any traction on finding River. It's not easy. Frank Harkness is man accustomed to winning. Louisa needs a year long nap and a hug. Lamb is Lamb. The Slow Horses do their best, as always.

Summary
Major spoilers for book 9 Clown Town.
A big thing happens iykyk. I felt like the audience/characters deserved a little more time to sit with it. So I wrote this.
River had never been comfortable with inertia. He believed, to his core, that if you weren’t progressing, you were falling behind. So when this weird little mystery of his grandad’s missing fake book/alleged secret porn stash had cropped up, he’d only been too excited to play sleuth. Well, it’s all fun and games until…but then again, no. When had this job ever been fun and games?

When Slough House receives a mysterious package, the slow horses are taunted into a new game with no rules. A game they still have to learn or lose River forever.

“Yeah, no, feeling better, thanks for asking.”
Lamb squinted at him, bemused. “Cartwright, if I gave a damn about your feelings, I’d have offed myself in solidarity years ago.”
Lech’s voice was wistful as he murmured, “If only.”
Lamb flicked his dead cigarette onto the pavement and nodded to River. “I saw you in there peeking out the window like some kind of pervy uncle.”
“Sure you’d know all about that,” River countered.
“Well, you’d be mistaken there,” the platonic ideal of a pervy uncle sneered back at him. “I’m an only child.”
Despite being on sick leave, River cannot escape Slough House, as he and Sid are forced to take in a hostage on the run for her life, who may or may not be a Russian spy.
Because I love River and Sid and wish they had appeared in book 8. Bad Actors but Sophie de Greer is sent to stay with Sid and River. Occurs earlier in the year than Bad Actors and I’m completely ignoring the existence of the COVID pandemic.
Characterization is a blend of book and show.

Summary
At the end of 4x05, Patrice abducts River at gunpoint. This time, they go to a remote, isolated manor where Frank is waiting for them. The slow horses do not see or hear from River again for almost five months. During that time, Frank does his level best to break River and rebuild him into a tool he can use, with Patrice as his assisting shadow. This… doesn’t really work. In fact, the process ends up breaking not River, but someone else.
Meanwhile, Slough House is on overdrive trying to find a missing colleague who the Park is all to quick to deem presumed dead and rubber-stamp his file as such. Louisa almost quits, and finds an odd solace in working alongside Lamb to try to bring their missing agent home. She is having a bad one - the maybe-loss of her best friend is tearing her apart.
It all comes to a head when Louisa follows a lead that she knows better than to follow. She is meant to be the last blow that destroys River's resolve. It doesn't shake out like that. By the time they're both rescued, it's a long road to recovery. But there is a road, and there's help along the way.

Summary
A month after France and Frank Harkness, Slough House is floundering beneath the weight of grief none of them quite know how to deal with. Fortunately, Catherine has returned, and she’s determined to fix things — starting with River, who’s carrying a secret that’s affecting how he acts both with her and with Lamb — until she and River are kidnapped from Slough House by a group of former slow horses that have a very serious bone to pick with Jackson Lamb.
It will be fine. Catherine knows that Lamb will come for River, and River knows that Lamb will come for Catherine, and until he does they simply have to keep the other alive long enough to be found. But what they’re not expecting is that these former slow horses don’t just want to hurt Lamb; they want to break River, and force Lamb to watch it happen.
But the former slow horses have made a significant error of judgement. With every recording they send of River’s torture, the more determined Lamb becomes to rescue his boy, and when he finally does get River and Catherine back he is never going to let them go. It’ll be a long, difficult road to recovery, but they’ll walk it together, all three of them.
