When the day arrives, Goro plans to meet Ren in Asakusa. He’d spent two days at the library reading about ice skating, watching videos of famous ice skaters like Yuzuru Hanyu, planning to impress Ren with at least his technical knowledge even if both of them eat shit on the ice. By the time he pays his entrance fee and rents a pair of battered old skates, he spots Ren standing just outside of the rink itself, near the reception area, stretching out his arms and legs with his back to Goro. Ren’s standing on one foot, stretching out his calf by pulling his ankle flush to his backside. Goro does not stare, and he does not entertain the brief glimpse of what else that flexibility could be useful for. (Phantom Thief escapades, Palace infiltrations, redacted.)
Then Ren lifts his fucking leg over his fucking head.

She wondered what would have happened if her tastes hadn’t ended up aligning with what young ladies of money and status were encouraged to like. She wondered what would happen if she uprooted the primroses and pansies from the pots on her patio and planted wild climbing vines instead, roses that hadn’t had the sharp thorns bred out of them, bushes of cooking herbs, planters of hemlock and nightshade.

Like that one time we were talking and he said that he couldn’t possibly bore me with his musings on Hegel and then I asked him anyways and he spent the rest of the night ranting about absolute idealism and dialectical thinking and the liminal spaces between self-identity and perception.”
For Kurusu Akira, stalking your former enemy slash rival—who may or may not haunt your dreams like a waking ghost—is a perfectly normal thing to do to cope with the impending nightmare that is your future. (Morgana disagrees.)

There’s an intricate bouquet on the table next to Goro's hospital cot. There’s a different bouquet every day; he uses them to track the days that have passed, since he was first admitted. Today’s is the sixth, which means that he's been here for a minimum of eight days: six for each bouquet, plus two more in the ICU before getting transferred to this room. Whoever it was that gifted them to him had put a great deal of thought into it, taken the care to select each individual item.
It’s been years since anyone has been so deliberate with him before — he’s not quite sure what to do with it, at this point.

And Akira had snorted because surely Mr. Miura could have saved his breath and skipped this lesson altogether. Who didn't know this?
