Summary
Every female bathroom at PTMC's hospital kept a small sheet tucked inside the sanitary product cupboard. They were advertised nowhere but on the back of the sheets.
If a patient couldn't safely ask for help, she could peel one off and stick it somewhere on her chart for a doctor or nurse to find.
It was enough.
It meant:
Please ask me when I'm alone.
Mel looked up.
Claire was already watching her.
Only for a second.
Then her eyes darted towards the closed curtain.
Mel understood.
She kept her voice level.
"Claire…"
She rested a finger lightly against the edge of the chart.
"… did you put this here?"
Claire's face paled. Empty, hollow, and anxious.
Then she gave the smallest, almost apologetic smile.
"Oh."
She laughed softly.
"No." She stated, her voice barely above a whisper.
"My daughter must have found it."
"Okay." Mel breathed.
She didn't believe her.
Not for a second.
