He wasn’t excited about having to pass through the desert to get to the Witch. The last thing he wanted was to encounter his family again, they had gotten much worse since he had left. While having no contact directly, he had heard rumours, quick whispers caught as he passed by the markets of villagers.
“It was brutal, my mother was nearby, she heard the screams.”
“I can’t believe they were given human forms, any one of those monsters could be right here and we’d never know.”

Kayden hadn't meant to read the contents, but his eyes skimmed over the first sentence and he couldn't stop.
With every word he read, Kayden felt something take root in his chest, coated in hot embers of denial and anger and fear. He didn’t understand why he had felt like this, until he reached the last page and realization slid over him. Icing his bones and shredding his heart paper thin.
The last page had a name, and a note.
It was Jiwoo’s.
