He could feel them every time he breathed, as if the air filling his lungs put pressure on the invisible wounds that cut him. Every time he laughed with his family, every smile he forced, was a reminder of the crack growing inside him. And at night, when the silence grew heavier, the pieces sank deeply, stabbing without mercy, reminding him of what he'd lost, what he had done.
In his chest, a few centimeters to the left, he was bleeding.
In fact, he had been for a long time, so much so that he had learned to live with that slow and relentless drip that he doubted would ever stop. He didn't believe there was a cure for the pain of knowing that, in some corner of his life, he had chosen the wrong path. Each heartbeat was a reminder of what he could never recover. Perhaps, in his darkest moments, he thought, this was what he deserved. Maybe that slow bleeding was the price he had to pay for the decisions he'd made, for the promises he'd broken, and for the secrets he kept.
And yet, he kept walking, maintaining that smile, trying to convince everyone, and himself, that everything was fine. Because, despite the constant hemorrhage in his chest, Seokjin wasn't ready to let everything fall apart.

Summary
Once upon a summer break, Seokjin met Jeon Jungkook. He was introduced to Seokjin by his mother, who recently moved to the neighbourhood and as luck has it, occupied the house just across the street. He was a lanky high schooler back then, with big, doe eyes that always looked so detached from the rest of the world. Seokjin had offered him a genial smile, like how his parents taught him to, while introducing himself.
When their eyes met, something snapped inside Seokjin’s head and he knew it that instant, though he never spoke of it. It was through Jungkook’s quietly blossoming smirk and his own fading smile, that he knew.
