Summary
The business card Mello held in his hand had been passed along to him by another escort who hadn’t been able to say for certain where they’d gotten it from. But, there was little doubt that it was meant for him. The card was simple, stark white, cut from fancy cardstock. On one side, shiny silver writing embossed upon it read a simple message: 'Seeking arrangement', followed by an address, a date and time.
Underneath that, near the bottom of the card, his name, 'Mello', stared back at him.
Mello turned the card over. On the backside an elegantly stylized black N stood in contrast to the rest of the immaculate white material.
The blonde had to admit: he loved a good mystery, and whoever this was certainly knew how to get his attention.

The silence between the two former successors is deafening as the corner of Near’s lips contours up into the hint of a smirk. “There are few people in this world who are truly fitting for the role that Roger once held, or who understand the work we must do if a new generation of Wammy’s is going to be a success.”
Mello’s stare narrows upon his rival, “You keep using that word… ‘we’.”
“Indeed, Mello,” Near allows the strand of hair to unravel once more from around his fingertip. “I can think of no one better suited for taking over the role of Roger than you.”

Summary
The thing is, whether Mello wants to admit it or not, there’s clearly chemistry between him and Near. It’s not like what he and Matt have with one another; it’s more intense. A little volatile, maybe. It used to be almost painful for Matt to watch, because it made him feel excluded, but he thinks that was probably more a product of his own insecurities than anything else.
Now, though... well. Now it kind of turns him on.
The first time he realized that, it startled him, because he wasn't just turned on by Mello being in his element, staring intently at Near as the two of them talked over the details of a new case. No. Something about how Near was looking at Mello, the gleam in his eye, the serious set of his jaw—
Alright. Matt has a type, okay? He doesn't know why freaky little geniuses do it for him, they just do. Mello probably broke his brain when they lost their virginity to each other in L.A. five years back. It's not Matt’s fault.
