It’s not enough, Lovro wants to say. How could it ever be? Like having to keep Ivan’s baby picture as his lockscreen instead of a picture of him now. Like Ivan stealing his shirts to wear in public spaces instead of reaching down to hold his hand. Like having to create fantasy scenarios in his mind about innocent affection. Discreet. Hidden. Like what he feels is something wrong. “Sure,” he says instead. “Maybe.”
A couple months down the line, Lovro gets a text from his father.
