Summary
"We were also concerned about possible organ damage, particularly since you only have one kidney, but your ribs took the brunt of the impact," the doctor tells him. "We'll know more when the swelling from the penetrating wound goes down."
Ha, Buck thinks. Penetrating.
"Wait," Eddie says. "That's not right. Buck has both his kidneys."
The doctor consults the chart again, her eyebrows drawing together. “I’m sorry, Mr Buckley, is there an error in your medical history? I have it right here that you only have your right kidney, is that correct?"
"Ye-es," Buck says. He can feel Eddie’s gaze on the side of his face and studiously avoids it.
"What?" Eddie says. "How did I not know this? When did you lose a kidney, was this when you were a kid?"
"Uh..." Buck says. "Aha. Last year."
Eddie's face shifts from perplexed to horrified to thunderous all within about two seconds. It would be funny to see his stoicism so rattled under different circumstances. "When I was in Texas?"
.
Buck is determined not to fall back on old coping mechanisms after Eddie leaves for Texas. So he invents a new one: organ donation.Bookmarked by fantasticality

Summary
“I love you.”
Wylan almost drops the plate. It’s not the deep velvety voice he often hears it from. It’s not-
He turns to look at her. “I'm sorry?” A question.
“I said I love you,” she says to her tea.
“Oh,” he says to the plate he didn’t drop. He thinks he should say it back. It’s his mother, after all, and it’s true.
But he’s pretty sure she’s saying it only so he says it back. She wants him in her hand so she can squeeze it shut later.
“I'm sorry,” he says, now an apology.

Jesper and Wylan have been living in the Van Eck mansion for more than a year now, getting used to navigating around and with each other. When Marya finally comes, they have to get used to a whole new dynamic.
Or: Marya comes back, and they have to get used to it.

Summary
Two years after the end of Crooked Kingdom, Jesper finally visits Novyi Zem and the father and life he left behind. But he isn't alone; Wylan comes, as well, determined to be supportive. Neither of them expects it to be an easy trip, but Novyi Zem holds more for both of them than they are prepared for.
Between ghosts of the past and conversations long overdue, Jesper and Wylan are forced to look at their relationship through a wide lens and ask each other the question that scares them the most: what happens when the difference between their two lifespans begins to show?
The only thing they can be certain of is that they are for each other. The rest is a turn of the wheel.

Summary
“Well, I can’t stand yours!” Wylan snaps, lying through his teeth.
The good thing of being roommates with your ex, Wylan thinks, is that he doesn’t have to tearfully hold onto Jesper’s sweatshirts and hope that the scent still remains. He can just go into the laundry room and sniff Jesper’s fabric softener like a completely well-adjusted, reasonable and mature adult.
-
or, Jesper and Wylan break up, still live together, miscommunicate and then communicate. And learn about some flowers.

Summary
Jesper was halfway through a plate of shrimp when he realised the wedding he’d crashed was actually a funeral. Well, a wake, he supposed. Oblivious as he was, it took three different middle aged women dabbing at their eyes and sniffling while wearing all black for him to clock that perhaps, just maybe, the party he’d slipped into wasn’t a cheery affair. He froze, one shrimp in his hand suspended halfway to his mouth, a fancy porcelain plate piled precariously with food and balanced in his other. Who the hell held a wake at the Geldrenner?
OR: Jesper accidentally crashes Jan Van Eck's funeral and meets Wylan, the now insanely rich heir intent on destroying his father's legacy (and company).
