Summary
When Vegas is handed the keys to a failing major family hotel and told to bring it back to life, he knows it’s not a gift, or a test, or even an opportunity to prove himself. It’s a taunt. It’s a way to set him up for failure so everyone can rub his nose in the shitshow he’s left with, defeated and inferior to his cousins like always. It’s the death sentence of his pride in a gilded cage.
But misery loves company and all that, and he finds a surprisingly fitting cellmate in an unassuming looking employee named Pete. Now if only he could get Pete to stop playing hard to get, this cage could become a lot more comfortable.

Summary
Pete is an expert at dealing with murderers. Although, when he finds himself tired of his afterlife job, monitoring souls on earth, he volunteers for a new assignment: spy on the lord of the Underworld.
Vegas resents all his babysitters. Although, as the lord of hell, he’s never failed to drive one away yet. When smiley sunshine Pete arrives on his doorstep, Vegas assumes its business as usual.
However with Pete casually befriending demons and watching souls get tortured with an intrigued smile on his face, Vegas soon realises he’s got his work cut out for him.

Vegas took a deep breath as the death rattle started, the blood on his skin slowly cooling. The sense of euphoria ran high as he watched the body for a moment. Turning back to the bodyguards he had with him, he told them to clean up the mess before leaving to send a message to his father.
All his life Vegas was trying to accomplish one thing, his father's approval. Along the way, he found that it wasn't as important as he thought. What he had lost was nothing compared to the path that was carved for him through blood and tears.

Pete was back to being good, old Pete, the bodyguard, and he hadn't even thought about Vegas obsessively, since he last saw him, around 81 hours ago. He wasn't even counting.
(Or: Pete doesn't see Vegas crying on the lawn about his hedgehog so he leaves, but his resolve only lasts three days.)
