Izuku's mom told him to stay away from the forest behind their house. She told him that monsters preyed on little green haired boys just like him and would drag them into the trees kicking and screaming...
She told him nightmarish stories just to scare him away, and then prayed to whatever god there is that Izuku would grow up and grow out of his love for that darkened forest.
But he never did.
