Shouto had been expecting it to be Uraraka.
He’d prepared himself for it—the moment he became friends with Midoriya, aflame in a stadium all those years ago, he’d accepted that he was second best, and that he was never going to be anything more than that. It wasn’t like it was hard for him to accept, or like he blamed Midoriya—Uraraka was bright. She was friendly, and warm, and kind—she would help him unconditionally, she always smiled, and she was, all in all, a good match for him. These were all things that Shouto did not have, and he knew that. He’d come to terms with it.
He’d been prepared to always be second-best.
But this—this was not Uraraka.
Or, Shouto learns about the unpredictability of love through heartbreak, laughter, and a little bit of time.

Aizawa starts walking towards the exit, obviously expecting Shouto to follow him, but Shouto's feet are frozen in place. His eyes flicker from the distorted reflection of himself in the ice to where All Might is giving him a long look, eyes kinder than anything Todoroki has ever been deserving of, and he feels sick.
“Todoroki-kun,” Midoriya says gently, squeezing his arm in what Shouto presumes is meant to be a reassuring gesture. “It’s going to be okay.”
He doesn’t think Midoriya is in any place to tell him what okay is, all things considered, but he chooses to keep quiet on the matter.

To destroy the Shadow Fold and end the war, Alina had used merzost and done something never before seen; she gave up her Grisha power to destroy the darkness, to kill the Darkling, and in return she became nothing. Having effectively martyred Sankta Alina, she slipped away into an ordinary, unremarkable life with a boy she loved and no greater calling than being content in a simple otkazatsya life.
But the universe, and the power at the making of the world, is infinite. And, as Alina knew, the spark of Grisha power is always there, deep inside. When reaching in and reawakening that light, Alina finds herself tugging on something she'd thought dead, a bond forged by merzost, stretching beyond the barriers of life into the infinite unknown.
