"I must say goodbye to this place."
"Goodbye? Viktor, you're my partner." Jayce cried.
Viktor replied, cold as sin. "Our paths diverged long ago. It was...affection that held us together."
"Then let's bring them back together!" Jayce cried. He could fix this- he'd fix them.
"Goodbye, Jayce," Viktor said bitterly, walking away. Jayce jumped in front of him, blocking his path and grabbing onto him.
"No, I won't lose you again!" Jayce was almost crying from anger. "Don't you know how hard it is? To turn your back on your whole city while they look to you for salvation? To cling to principles while your best friend bleeds out in your arms?" He sobs. "I never asked for this!"
If nothing angered Viktor before, that did. He was supposed to die, but Jayce was too selfish. Jayce didn't want this? Viktor didn't want it either!
"I didn’t ask for you to be my savior," Viktor seethed with anger, but Jayce opened that stupid mouth again. So he twisted his arm out of Jayce's grip, not wanting to hear another word.
Just as quick as Jayce's mouth opened, it shut.
Viktor's hand lunged for Jayce's neck before he could even realize what he’d just done.

There is no quiet in the antiseptic whiteness of the hospital room. Machinery whirrs to a mockery of life with every inhale and each exhale, measuring the parameters of real life that trickles out so quickly, so invisibly and soundlessly—even though surrounded by noise, wrapped in it like in a soundproof blanket.
Viktor's chest expands with shallow breaths, and the beeping monitors have to remind Jayce he's not dead yet. He's not sure if he can say he's still alive, though—somehow, it feels too much like a lie of omission.
Viktor has never known life without pain, but since Jayce's met him, how possibly could he fathom life without Viktor?
