James’s lips twitched downward, eyes searching Regulus’s face. “I know who you are.”
“I’m not always soft. I know, sometimes you make me soft. You make me warm and sweet. I feel right when I'm by your side, but sometimes you make me sharp. Sometimes I’m still angry and twisted, and I don’t want you to forget—”
“Regulus,” James cut him off firmly. “I know who you are.”
Regulus fell silent, simply blinking up at his partner. James sighed, shaking his head.
“I know, you’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s dropped, Regulus. It dropped and then spent years beating us over the head. I knew you’d come back because that’s how it works. I always wait and you always come back to me. I get this is still hard for you to understand, so let me be very clear. I know who you are, and I love you. No conditions, no buts, just that. I love you.”
