“You took a break for two years but the game tonight made it seem like you didn’t take a break at all! What do you have to say to all your fans out there?”
Aomine looks into the camera and Kise is captivated by his dark blue eyes. “Keep moving forward and chasing after your goals. Don’t lose sight of it. Whatever’s stopping you from being your best, it’s time to let go of it.”
Kise stops paying attention when other players come on screen, but Aomine’s words echo in his mind.
It’s time to let go.
For the last decade or so, all Kise has been hearing is the slow but sure cracks deep in his soul. They started so small and unnoticeable, so insignificant, until one day, the holes have become so big that to patch them up with his own power has become downright impossible. He doesn’t know who he is or what he’s fighting for anymore.

Haizaki's biggest nightmare is this shithead bastard a year older than him named Nijimura Shuuzo. Nijimura was Haizaki’s basketball captain in his middle school days, back when Haizaki was a dumb shit who actually focused on lame things like basketball instead of dealing drugs and forging IDs and showing the neighbourhood gangs who’s boss.
Haizaki has literally not seen Nijimura since his middle school graduation. Nijimura shouldn’t even be on the same continent as him right now, actually. In light of this, it seems reasonable that Haizaki’s first reaction at seeing Nijimura in Japan, in front of his house, is gape.
