The word sat there between them, ugly and intentional.
Troy stiffened at the edge of the play. Ilya’s shoulders locked immediately.
Shane didn’t move at first.
He leaned closer instead, visor nearly touching the other man’s, and spoke quietly enough that it didn’t carry beyond them.
“You say that again,” he said, voice steady and edged with something heavier than irritation, “and you won’t finish this fucking game.”
Or when Shane is wound tight after a bad media interview, and the Centaurs' opposing teams Center makes him crack.

“I… yes?” Shane groaned miserably into his hands. Ilya stood and moved towards his obviously very distressed husband in record time. “Was a reminder on my phone. It just popped up. What is wrong?”
His husband heaved out a tired sigh then held up his phone. A message from the Centaur group chat was on the screen.
“Tonight’s guys night at Chouinard’s.”
Ilya blinked. Oh, fuck.Ilya and Shane are the first ever hockey players to also both be WAGs. This causes some unintended issues.

Summary
To be clear, Ilya is grateful the rookies aren’t growing up the way he did in the NHL. Ilya took the hazing to the chin – humiliation rituals, beat downs, grueling practices to prove he could “hang” with the big guns on the team.
That being said, there’s still some part of Ilya that balks at the request by the gaggle of rookies to watch The Iron Giant, a veritable children’s movie at the team’s latest movie night.
OR: Five times Shane and Ilya were the support system for the Centaur rookies they dreamed of having when they were younger.
