Maddie falls with an uncharacteristic somberness. Her words come sad and small in a way that makes Briar’s skin crawl. “You do what you think is best for you, Briar. When kismet comes to cash her cheques, remember this past and who she wrecks.”
Or, Briar bleeds all the way to her destiny, but the future still finds a way to gut her raw.
