Ian is drowning in white noise--the dull hum of lithium, the suffocating "care" of his family, and the constant, nagging presence of a certain Mickey Milkovich who has traded his switchblade for a bottle of vitamin B-complex.
When Sammi Slott fails to make the call that would have ended everything, the trajectory of Ian's life shifts. Instead of handcuffs and a desert border, there is a bloody fight on a baseball field, a surprisingly expensive steak at Sizzler's, and a choice to finally stop running.
